ECCS held its annual autumn tour in early September 2026. On the morning of September 8, 36 members departed Edmonton for Newfoundland — Canada's easternmost province — embarking on a 7-day journey through world heritage sites of history, culture, and nature. The tour began at Signal Hill, overlooking the full panorama of St. John's, the provincial capital. The group then visited Cape Spear (Canada's easternmost point), the Basilica Cathedral of St. John the Baptist, the Newfoundland National War Memorial, the Chinese Head-tax Monument, and the historic towns and villages nearby — gaining a deep appreciation of Newfoundland's colonial history and the early European presence in Canada. Heading north along the western coastline, members enjoyed breathtaking ocean scenery, observed thousands of seabirds returning to roost at Cape St. Mary's, explored the puffin colony at Skerwin Trail, and entered Gros Morne National Park — a UNESCO World Heritage Site — where they witnessed the extraordinary landscapes shaped by tectonic plate movement, glacial melting, and coastal erosion. The tour concluded at the Town of Deer Lake. The weather was kind throughout, with rain narrowly avoided at every turn. On the afternoon of September 14, members boarded their flight home to Edmonton, cameras and phones filled with beautiful memories.
